Morristown couple charged with altering TennCare prescription

NASHVILLE (WATE) -- A Morristown couple is charged in connection with trying to fill a doctor's prescription that had been altered.

Tonya Brotherton, 29, and her husband, Richard Brotherton, 28, are each charged with one count of fraudulently obtaining TennCare benefits.

According to the indictment, Tonya Brotherton is accused of using TennCare to pay for a doctor's office visit when she got a prescription for the painkiller Lortab.

She and Richard are accused of changing the prescription to include another painkiller, Roxicodone.

Illegally obtaining TennCare medical benefits is a class E felony that carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison.
