KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- The cold is helping beat back mosquitos and West Nile virus in Knox County.

A health department official says right now there are very few mosquitos and a couple more cold mornings like Monday's should take care of the rest.

Thanks to the below normal temperatures, the health department has cut back on efforts to get rid of mosquitos.

The last two samples Knox County sent to the state lab didn't test positive for any West Nile virus.
