KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Rising gas prices may take a toll on holiday spending this year.

Over the past six months, gas prices have been surging across the nation.

The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas in Knoxville Sunday was $2.48.

Some analysts predict gas prices may take some of the jingle out of the holiday season this year.

"I wish gas prices were a little cheaper," one driver says.

"Any time gas goes up, people are figuring that into their budgets and what they spend on other things may decrease," explains AAA spokesman Don Lindsey.

"It is going to be really hard because I have a baby and I may not be able to get as many presents for her," one driver, Megan Johnson, says.

Even if prices at the pump hold steady at an average of $2.50 a gallon from November to January, experts still say Americans will pay an extra $26.6 billion for gas.

Some drivers say no matter what, the cost of filling up their holidays will still be jolly. "I expect Christmas to be about the same as last year," Chris Boley says.

As the gift giving season approaches, a gas card may be worth adding to your wish list.

AAA says the best way to save money is to reduce your fuel consumption. Properly inflated tires and clean air filters also help provide better fuel efficiency.
