KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- The Tennessee National Guard's 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment is preparing for deployment to Iraq in February 2010, officials said Wednesday.
The regiment just completed more than three weeks of annual training at Camp Shelby, Miss.
Now, the state's largest combat unit will return to the south Mississippi mobilization station on the first leg of that deployment.
The Regiment will move to Camp Shelby around December 5 to begin mobilization training.
The 278th is scheduled to train for approximately two months at Camp Shelby, before being deployed to Iraq.
More than 3,300 soldiers serve in the 278th, hailing from Kingsport to Henderson.
