Thomas' defense seeks to exclude evidence from computer

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- The defense team for George Thomas, the third man to stand trial in the Christian-Newsom murders case, is seeking to get evidence from a computer excluded.

The state has filed notice that it intends to introduce evidence from a computer at the Lebanon, Kentucky home where Thomas was arrested in January 2007.

Thomas' attorneys said they haven't been able to examine the computer yet and the trial starts on Tuesday.

They argue that if the state is allowed to introduce this evidence, it will violate Thomas' right to a fair trial.

Judge Richard Baumgartner hasn't issued a ruling on the defense motion.

Two other defendants in the case, Letalvis Cobbins and Vanessa Coleman, were arrested with Thomas in Kentucky.

Cobbins was convicted in August and sentenced to life without parole. Coleman's case is on appeal and no trial date has been set.
