MARYVILLE (WATE) -- A Maryville man was arrested for holding his mother against her will Saturday night, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
Chad Edward Brewer, 32, is charged with the aggravated kidnapping of Deborah L. Brewer, 52.
Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the Blount County Communication Center was notified that Brewer's mother, Deborah, may be in some type of trouble.
A member of her family told dispatchers Deborah left earlier in the evening with her son to take him to a friend's house.
When the family member called to check on Deborah later, the caller said she answered her cell phone, but wasn't acting like herself and they thought she may be in danger.
The sheriff's office told officers in Blount and surrounding counties to be on the lookout for Deborah's white Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The Trailblazer was later spotted by a Knox County Sheriff's deputy on John Sevier Highway.
The deputy noticed that the driver kept tapping the brakes as they headed south on Alcoa Highway. That deputy pulled the Trailblazer over near Green Acres Flea Market on Alcoa Highway. Chad and Deborah Brewer and another man were inside.
During the traffic stop, Chad Brewer pulled what appeared to be a handgun from under the driver's seat.
An Alcoa police officer used his Taser to help arrest Brewer. Officers later determined Brewer had a pellet gun.
Deborah Brewer wasn't injured during the incident. She told deputies that earlier in the night, her son asked her to take him to a friend's house. However, after they left, he pulled out the gun and told her he planned to kill himself.
Deborah said he wouldn't let her out of the Trailblazer and after picking up Joseph Burl Russell, 38, of Maryville, forced her to drive them to Chapman Highway in Knoxville.
Russell wasn't charged in the kidnapping, but he had several narcotics with him that had no prescriptions.
Russell is being held at the Blount County Detention Facility on bonds totaling $4,000. He's due for a court hearing on December 2.
Chad Brewer is being held on a $50,000 bond in the Blount County Detention Facility. He's scheduled for a court hearing on December 7. He's also being held on outstanding warrants for simple possession and possession of a controlled substance.
