Coleman continues to seek appeal

KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Vanessa Coleman, the final defendant to be prosecuted in the carjacking and slayings of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, is waiting to hear if the state's highest court hear her appeal.

Judge Richard Baumgartner on Wednesday set a trial date of May 10 for Coleman, but her attorneys say they plan to ask the Tennessee Supreme Court to look at an appeal before that.

A lower appellate court refused to consider the appeal before she is tried.

Coleman's attorney, Russ Greene, said the appeal claims she had an agreement with federal prosecutors, which entitles her to immunity from state prosecution.
