KNOXVILLE (AP) -- State and federal courts have sentenced a former Jefferson County sheriff's detective in child sex cases.
James Hobart Irwin, Jr. was given an 18-year federal prison term after earlier admitting he sent an undercover police officer child pornography. The sentence was the culmination of a plea agreement.
Following the federal court hearing Monday, the 60-year-old Irwin was sentenced in Knox County Criminal Court to 18 years in the rape of an eight-year-old girl who he took pictures of for his pornography collection.
That sentence will run concurrently to his federal prison term.
Irwin was a Jefferson City police officer before joining the county sheriff's office.
