Gay newspaper returns to racks in Nashville grocery stores

July 6, 2007

NASHVILLE (AP) -- A regional gay and lesbian newspaper will return to three Harris Teeter grocery stores in the Nashville area.

Out & About was pulled from the stores about a month ago as well as from Kroger stores in the area.

The companies initially cited policies against promoting or distributing information of religious or political nature when the paper was removed.

Newspaper supporters said the Kroger policy was discriminatory and inconsistent because the company allows the display of gay newspapers at its stores in other markets, and alternative weekly newspapers with political columns and ads for strip clubs in the Nashville area.

Both companies reviewed the paper's content, and allowed the publication to again be distributed in Nashville stores.
