KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- For the eighth year in a row, 16,000 bikers have converged on Knoxville for the Honda Hoot.

Group rides leave every morning from Chilhowee Park, with other activities planned around town at night.

Honda Hoot riders make the journey to Knoxville from all 50 states and beyond.

"You don't see a lot of young folks here. You see mostly the middle-aged, older crowd. They tend to be somewhat reserved and I think because of that we have a really, really good safety record at this event," says Keith Dowdle, assistant manager for American Honda's motorcycle shows and Rider's Club.

Still, Dowdle says all drivers with four wheels should be on the lookout.

"Make sure you that you check your mirrors, double check your mirrors this week because motorcycles are going to be all over the place," Dowdle says.

Dowdle says Knoxville drivers generally do a good job sharing the road during this week.

That's why the Honda Hoot will happen next year and Knoxville is definitely in the running to host the event beyond that.

The Honda Hoot wraps up with a concert by Wynonna Saturday Night at the Civic Coliseum.

The Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation estimates this year's entire event will have an economic impact of $23.1 million.
