Hiker dies of heart attack in Great Smoky Mountains National Park

GATLINBURG (WATE) -- A hiker found dead in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park died of an apparent heart attack, according to authorities.

Park spokesman Bob Miller said Harry Lewis, 67, of Morristown was hiking with a friend around 3:30 p.m. Friday on the Little River Trail above Elkmont when he collapsed.

Several other hikers stopped and tried to help Lewis but were not successful.

Lewis reportedly died at the scene. 

Rescue workers with the Gatlinburg Fire Department were called to transport the body to the Sevier County Medical Center for examination.
