KNOXVILLE (WATE) -- Some heavily traveled roads in downtown Knoxville will close temporarily for SmartFIX 40 project construction.

The section of North Central Street between Magnolia Avenue and Fifth Avenue was closed Wednesday.

Crews are working on the I-40 bridge structure that's over that section of North Central Street.

There are also crews working on beams of the structure from scaffolding.

This construction will continue through Friday. The work will take place daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

When that section is done, the crews will move about one block down North Central Street to Gay Street and do the same thing there.

The construction near Gay Street will last about five days.

If you have a question about a rough patch of pavement, a pothole or a place that needs paving, you can fill out this online contact form or call at 637-NEWS and ask for the Street Wise hotline.
