MORRISTOWN (WATE) - The story of a "Hobbit House" maker in East Tennessee went viral earlier this year, and that has really changed his life. Now he is a big part of the tiny home movement, even catching the eye of a major cable show.
Randy Jones is staying busy. He started a new style of home he calls "American Freedom." He is now on tiny home number seven and showing no signs of slowing down.Previous story: Morristown man builds 'Hobbit House'
Jones says he can turn out one of these homes, with custom requests, in about two weeks. So far he's done lots of labor and very little marketing.
"The tiny house community is very big," Jones explained. "It's a tight knit community. They are finding me in all different venues."
Jones says after he sold the Hobbit House, he made just one tiny home and posted it on an online site. Within just 24 hours, it caught a lot of attention.
"I look at my phone and it is blowing up," he said laughing. "Twelve, 14, 20, 26 emails! "Previous story: Morristown 'Hobbit House' builder gaining national attention
He is currently building a home for someone in the Chicago area and has orders for several more. He says the big difference between his work and other contractors is cost. Most of his homes are below $30,000.
Things are going so well right now he has hired someone full time and he says he's preparing for a visit from HGTV's show "Tiny House Hunters." In the meantime you can find him on Facebook under "Incredible Tiny Homes."
