Gatlinburg mayor, city manager lose homes in fires

WATE 6 On Your Side Staff - GATLINBURG (WATE) - The mayor of Gatlinburg said at a press conference Tuesday giving the latest updates on the massive fires in the area that he had lost his home and business. City Manager Cindy Ogle also lost her home in the fire.

"A couple of hours ago I had the opportunity to drive through town and found my home is gone and my business is gone," said Mayor Mike Werner. "We're strong, we're resilient, and we're going to make it. We're going to pull it together and make Gatlinburg a premier resort."

Officials said around 150 structures were damaged or destroyed in all of Sevier County, but crews are still working to go door to door to check on everyone. Three deaths have been reported so far in the fires.
