Police: N.C. man charged with kidnapping for taking 16-year-old Kentucky girl

LOYALL, Ky. (WATE) - A 41-year-old North Carolina man is facing a kidnapping charge after police say he drove to Loyall, Kentucky to pick up a 16-year-old girl and take her back to his home in North Carolina.

The teen disappeared March 26 when her mother went to work. The mother contacted state police who began an investigation.

The girl was found safe on Tuesday at Jonathan Stewart's house by Charlotte police. She was taken into protective custody, then released to her parents. Stewart was arrested and is awaiting extradition back to Kentucky. More criminal charges could be filed pending an investigation.

Loyall is in Harlan County, Ky., about 18 miles north of the Tennessee border.
