Police identify driver killed in South Knoxville crash

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Knoxville police identified the man killed in a crash in South Knoxville on Friday night.

The crash was reported just before 8 p.m. in the 4900 block of Martin Mill Pike. Police say a Nissan Versa driven by Michael Anderson, 20, of Mascot, was going south at a high rate of speed when it lost control in a curve. Anderson's car hit an oncoming Mercury Mountaineer going northbound and then hit a tree.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in Anderson's car and the driver of the Mountaineer were taken to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Knoxville police say alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in Anderson losing control of his vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
