1 dead, 3 injured after car fire in Knoxville

WATE 6 On Your Side staff - KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) -- Knoxville Police Department said speed was a contributing factor in a deadly car accident.

The accident happened at around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Dandridge Avenue and Witt Place in Knoxville. Police said Andrew Patrick, 20, died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Joshua Mynatt, Linda Brown and Ashley Gaddison were also taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center with injuries. Mynatt and Brown are both listed in stable condition.

According to a preliminary investigation, police said a 1999 Lincon Town Car was traveling east on Dandridge Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Witt Place. Investigators said the vehicle came to a rest on its top and was quickly engulfed in flames.

One passenger was ejected from the vehicle and two passengers were pulled from the wreckage, according to police. First responders said they were unable to immediately remove Patrick from the vehicle due to the fire becoming too large.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the accident.
