2 East Tenn. men arrested, charged with raping child

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Two men charged with raping a child were arrested Thursday morning by the Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force.

The task force, led by the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested Mark Warren Lay, 48, of Lake City and Cody Lynn Wyrick, 24, of Strawberry Plains. Lay was arrested in Luttrell, while Wyrick was arrested in Knoxville. 

Both men are charged with child rape and are being held in the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility. Lay is held on $100,000 bond, Wyrick on $75,000 bond.

The arrests followed investigations led by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Family Crisis Unit.

The Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force is comprised of officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Knoxville Police Department, the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office.
