Ceremony honors Knoxville homeless persons who died this year

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Members of the Knoxville community came together Thursday night to remember our homeless neighbors who died during the past year.

The annual Homeless Persons' Memorial and Candlelight Vigil took place at Volunteer Ministry Center, hosted by St. John's Lutheran Church. St. John's has hosted the event in partnership with several agencies that serve the needs of Knoxville's homeless, including KARM and VMC.

"We've gotten a lot of support from the community. I think our city mayor and her endeavors towards ending homelessness has really been pushing Knoxville and Knox County as a whole to really focus on family and really take care of our own people," said Matt Magrans-Tillery with Cherokee Health Systems.

The event has taken place for the last nine years.
