DANDRIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) - Demolition of a Dandridge bridge will be completed Thursday.
The final two spans of the old SR 92 bridge will be demolished at 10 a.m.
The bridge was built by the Nashville Bridge Company between 1942-1944. It provided a direct route from Dandridge to residents in the Chestnut Hill area.
The demolition will consist of two blasts and cranes will be used to remove sections out of the lake. A section of the steel will be given to the city to commemorate the structure.
The bridge's replacement will be built by the Simpson Construction Company, Inc. The company submitted a bid price of $29,106,151.81.
The 52 feet-wide bridge is expected to be completed by April 15, 2019. It will have two lanes, 10-foot shoulders and a five-foot sidewalk.
