Gang member convicted in Lonsdale shooting

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - The Knox County District Attorney's office has obtained multiple felony convictions for a gang member guilty of robbing and shooting a man in Lonsdale.

Joshua Derrell Hurt, 19, was convicted of especially aggravated robbery, attempted voluntary manslaughter and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

Aggravated Robbery is a Class A felony that carries a punishment between fifteen and twenty-five years without the possibility of parole.

Hurt shot a victim five times before stealing $500 in May 2016. Hurt and the victims were friends and the victim initially thought Hurt was joking when he demanded the money.

Hurt has been classified as a member of the Crips criminal street gang. Prosecutors said they intend to seek an enhanced sentence due to his gang affiliations and the nature of the crime.

His case is set for May 31 and faces a minimum of 15 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
