Gatlinburg tests outdoor warning system

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) - Gatlinburg will be testing the Outdoor Warning Siren System between noon and 3 p.m. on Friday.

The test will activate all 14 outdoor warning sirens for the City of Gatlinburg and the immediate adjacent Sevier County areas.  The tone-only sirens will emit a series of tones while the tone and voice sirens will emit tones and broadcast various digital voice warning messages.

Sevier County EMA will perform a test of the CodeRed system for the Gatlinburg area.  Residents that have enrolled in the CodeRed notification system can expect to receive cellular phone calls, text messages and emails advising of the test of the siren system.

During the test, residents and visitors that are outdoors and in the vicinity of the sirens can expect to hear siren tones and digital voice warning messages.  ]

"We are utilizing this opportunity to validate that the various emergency tones and messages have been programmed accurately," said the city in a statement.

Residents are encouraged to sign-up for CodeRed notifications.  Check the City of Gatlinburg website for a link to sign up for CodeRed alerts.
