'Kinky Boots' prepares for opening night at Tennessee Theatre

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Broadway is making its way to the Tennessee Theatre this weekend for five performances of the smash hit "Kinky Boots."

The story of a shoe factory owner and entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, the show has won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography.

The crew arrived early Thursday for load-in: the long process of unpacking, setting the stage and preparing the costumes. The stage manager, costumes worker and some local help work long hours to make sure the hit goes off with a bang.

"It's a lot of work that we have to do," said Franco Castronuovo, the head carpenter and production manager. "It's fast-paced constantly and a little extreme sometimes. It's a full production... it looks pretty dang close to what is on Broadway, actually."

The crew has just one day to prepare for the show, set up the stage and set the lights and special effects, but it will all be ready to go by Friday night's show.
