Man charged with trying to rob South Knox County dollar store

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - A man was arrested Friday and charged with an attempted armed robbery late last month at a South Knox County dollar store.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says Randy Woody, 50, is charged with the attempted robbery of Dollary General, 3130 Circle Oak Drive, on January 26.

Deputies say he pulled a gun on the clerk and demanded money. When she refused, deputies say he hit her multiple times with the weapon. He's also accused of sticking the gun in a customer's face and hitting him with it as well.

During a struggle, the suspect dropped the gun and drove off.

Woody is being held on $35,000 bond. His criminal history includes a 1989 homicide conviction, kidnapping, robbery and burglary.
