CHURCH HILL, Tenn. (WATE) - A man is dead after being shot by a deputy in Hawkins County.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Hawkins County deputies received information that a man wanted in Dickenson County, Virginia, was at a home on Okolona Road in Church Hill.
When deputies arrived Monday afternoon, they spotted Eugene Loftis, 25, in a vehicle in the driveway. Deputies walked up to the car and asked the man to show his hands, but he instead reached for a gun, according to TBI.
One of the deputies fired shots, hitting Loftis, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were hurt.
TBI is investigating and will turn over any findings to the district attorney general.
Neither the man shot nor the deputies have been identified.
