CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - A Knoxville man is behind bars after police say he tried to steal cigarettes from the back of a trailer in Crossville. While he was in the back of the trailer, the delivery driver was able to lock him in until police arrived.
Police were called to Weigel's on Peavine Road on Monday. When they arrived, police say they found the suspect, Michael Shane Caffey, 42, trapped in the trailer screaming that he had a gun.
When officers opened the door, Caffey, who didn't appear to have a gun, was able to get away from police and run. After a short foot chase, Caffey was arrested.
During a pat down of the man, officers found a pack of Newport cigarettes in his underwear.
Caffey, who was also wanted in Knox County for a parole violation, was taken to the Cumberland County Jail where he was charged with burglary and evading arrest.
