Memorial for Roane County child hit and killed by motorcycle planned Thursday

Roane County Schools director says the focus are the students recovering from this accident

OLIVER SPRINGS (WATE) - A community and a family are grieving only three days after a child was hit and killed by a motorcycle while getting off the bus from middle school.

Jacob Patterson, 12, was a seventh grade student at Oliver Springs Middle School. Dr. Leah Watkins, director of Roane County Schools shared a statement with WATE 6 On Your Side:

On behalf of Roane County Schools, our hearts go out to Jacob's family and friends. There are no words to describe the impact this tragedy has and will continue to have on all those who knew him. We ask the county and region to keep this family, friends, and community in your thoughts and prayers. For those interested in monetary contributions, Premier Sharp Funeral Home is accepting contributions for funeral expenses between the hours of 8:00-4:30 daily."

His family released an online obituary Monday through Premier Sharp Funeral Home. His family will be receiving friends and family Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., with the funeral following. Burial and graveside services will be held on Friday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

He is described in the obituary as a straight A student who always had a smile on his face.

A memorial is set up at the site of the accident along Old Harriman Highway near Scandlyn Hallow Road.
