MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) - The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is taking new precautions to assure student safety, Sheriff Tommy J. Jones II said in a statement.
Sheriff Jones II specified that he couldn't publicly share all of the new safety precautions, but he went on to say that deputies will patrol school zones in marked cars, check school perimeters during shifts, and will help School Resource Officers periodically.
Deputies are also encouraged to consider working part time as substitute teachers on days off and eat lunch in school cafeterias.
"School safety starts right here in Monroe County, Tennessee," Sheriff Jones II said.
