Police identify human remains found as missing Knoxville woman

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Police have identified remains found in Speedwell as a missing Knoxville woman.

In May,  Knoxville police launched an investigation into the disappearance of 36-year-old Nakisha Scott, a resident of Elk Hill Way, after she was reported missing by family members.

Knoxville Police Special Crimes Unit investigators worked with family members and the public in an attempt to locate Scott, developing leads in the months following her disappearance.

With the assistance of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, Campbell County Sherriff’s Office personnel recovered the remains and collected forensic  evidence at the scene of the recovery. The remains were transported to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center for identification, and for further investigation.

On Dec. 6, Knoxville Police investigators were informed by the Knox County Regional Forensic Center that the recovered remains were of Scott.

Police say the cause of Scott's death is undetermined, pending a ruling by the Medical Examiner.
