KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - Pond Gap Elementary school finished up a large renovation process Wednesday morning.
The project nearly doubled the size of the school, adding a new gym, cafeteria, music room, media center and more.
For years, several classes have been held in portable classrooms outside the main building.
Now, there's a whole new wing of classrooms. There's even a new entrance, bus drive and car drop off.
"You should have seen them, they just ran around and loved it and you can tell that they feel like they're appreciated, and that they know that this is where they're going to be to learn and to do great things and its just a wonderful place," said Principal Shelly McGill.
Pond Gap also celebrated the installation of a nearly-$80,000 playground.
All of the work was made possible by Knoxville non-profits and organizations that saw a need and pitched in to help.
