Sheriff: Man shot, killed after trying to pull gun on Hawkins County deputies

CHURCH HILL, Tenn. (WATE) - A man is dead after the sheriff of Hawkins County says he tried to pull a gun on officers who then fired their weapons.

Around 7 p.m. Thursday, deputies with the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office were called to a home on Hickory Hills Road in Church Hill for a domestic violence call, possibly involving gunfire.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says when the deputies arrived, a man came through the front door with what looked like a gun in his waistband. He didn't respond to the deputies' commands, according to the TBI. Deputies fired a taser, but were unsuccessful in subduing him.

At some point, TBI says the man threatened officers with the gun, which resulted one of the deputies firing shots, hitting the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deputies were not hurt.

No other information has been released.
