HARROGATE, Tenn. (WATE) - A southwestern Virginia man was arrested Monday in Claiborne County on solicitation of a minor charges during a sting operation.
Gregory L. McKnight Jr., 26, of Clintwood, Virginia, is charged with solicitation of a minor, solicitation of a minor to observe sexual conduct, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession without a prescription.
The Claiborne County Sheriff's Office says it and the New Tazewell Police Department were conducting an investigation involving a minor. McKnight was found to be in contact with the minor on social media and had sent several inappropriate photos of his privates.
Sheriff David Ray says officer set up a sting operation at Harrogate City Park, where McKnight had agreed to meet the juvenile. A detective watched him enter the park and he was immediately arrested. He was also found to be in possession of drugs and paraphernalia.
Ray says McKnight was previously terminated from the Virginia Correctional Department and is currently employed by the United States Postal Service.
He is being held on $100,000 bond.
