Texas man arrested for drug trafficking during Cocke County traffic stop

NEWPORT, Tenn. (WATE) - A Texas man was arrested on Monday on cocaine trafficking charges during a traffic stop in Cocke County.

Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers say they pulled over Javier L. Torres, 28, on Interstate 40 for speeding. The trooper said the driver had indicators of possible criminal activity so another trooper with a K9 was called in.

K9 Laky alerted to possible drugs in the vehicle. A search was conducted and the troopers found four kilos of cocaine, weighing nine pounds, along with $5,660 in cash.

Torres was taken into custody and charged with felony cocaine trafficking.
