University of Tennessee students come together to lend a hand for the holidays

Megan Sadler - KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - University of Tennessee student Kelsey Duncan got more than she bargained for when she posted a status on Facebook requesting help from her peers to provide a special Christmas to a family in need.

"I first started this little mission on Facebook, looking for women to join me who wanted to provide an amazing Christmas for families around Knoxville. My company, The Sorority Guide, was founded on the basis of bringing empowered, independent, caring and values based women together and that is exactly what we have done here. I expected 10-15 women to be interested in helping, but the numbers kept growing. We now have over 200 incredible women who are helping to provide these families a Christmas miracle."

The group of more than 200 members plans to raise money through a GoFundMe Account in order to buy gifts for kids in need at Pond Gap Elementary School.

They're also planning to help some families who don't have the means to provide gifts to their kids this year.

"I don't want [my daughter] to think Santa isn't real," said one mother the group is planning to help. "She is my world. You are my angels, thank you so much."

Another family is in desperate need of a bed. A mother chooses so sleep on the couch each night so that her disabled son can sleep in the family's only bed.
