Zoo Knoxville announces name for baby langur

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - After prolonged polling from Zoo Knoxville over the new name for their 2-month old Silvered-leaf langur, the selection process has concluded and the primate will be forever known as Opie.

The public was voting between Smokey, Bob, Opie, Treble and Knox through an online poll on surveymonkey.com

The new name comes just in time for the March 2 opening of the Gibbon Trails and Langur Landing exhibits.

Silvered-leaf langurs are a species of monkey native to Southeastern Asia and Indonesia. They're classified as 'near threatened' by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
