ST. LOUIS, Mo. (WATE) - No. 13 Tennessee was outscored by four points in the seconds half but held off Mississippi State in a 62-59 win on Friday in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinal game.
Vols forward and SEC Player of the Year Grant Williams put up a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Lamonte Turner and Admiral Schofield scored in double figures as well. Turner led Tennessee with a team-high 15 points and 8 rebounds. Schofield added 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Mississippi State, who only led for 3 minutes and 28 seconds, cut Tennessee's lead to two with just over one minute to play. Trailing 61-59, Xavian Stapleton had a wide-open 3-point attempt from the corner but the shot went long, bouncing off the rim and into Tennessee guard Jordan Bone's hands. The Bulldogs had the ball when the clock expired as well, but could not get a final shot off.
With the win, the No. 2 seed Vols advance to the semifinals to play the winner of Arkansas-Florida on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN.
