Vols drop in AP poll after up and down week

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - It was a week of highs and lows for the University of Tennessee men's basketball team. But at the end of the week, the team ended up going down in the rankings, falling to number 18 in the nation. The team was ranked number 15 last week.

Tuesday, Rick Barnes' Vols traveled to Lexington to take on John Calipari's Kentucky Wildcats. The Vols 61-59 win marked the team's first season sweep of the 'Cats since 1999. Tennessee beat Kentucky 76-65 in Knoxville in January.

On Saturday, Tennessee hit the road again, this time heading to Tuscaloosa to play Alabama. Alabama proved too much for the Vols, though, handing them a 78-50 defeat.

On Sunday, CBS released its projected top 16 teams for the upcoming NCAA tournament. The Vols were projected as a #4 seed in the South Region.

The Vols host South Carolina in Knoxville on Tuesday, before traveling to Georgia on Saturday evening.

The Lady Vols remain at No. 11 after defeating Georgia. They play Alabama on Thursday and Missouri on Sunday.
