Vols head volleyball coach Rob Patrick announces resignation

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) - University of Tennessee head volleyball coach Rob Patrick announced Wednesday he was stepping down after 21 seasons with the Vols.

Patrick is the program's all-time wins leader with 409 career victories. He coached 16 of the program's 18 all-time All Americans and led the team to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.

"We're very appreciative of Coach Patrick's longstanding service to the University of Tennessee," Associate Athletics Director and volleyball administrator Angie Boyd-Keck said.

Tennessee's best volleyball seasons under Patrick were in 2004 and 2005. The 2005 Lady Vols went all the way to the NCAA semifinals and Patrick was named NCAA National Coach of the year by VBall Magazine.

Patrick's resignation takes effect immediately. The university will now begin a national search for his successor.
