GREENEVILLE (AP) - Prosecutors say a former Hamblen County deputy was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for civil rights violations for raping a woman after a traffic stop.

Dexter L. Morris Jr., of Morristown, was sentenced Thursday after being convicted by a jury last year on two counts of deprivation of civil rights and making a false statement.

According to a news release, Morris stopped a woman and then raped her in his patrol car in August 2005.

He also was accused of threatening a woman with additional charges unless she exposed herself to him.

U.S. District Judge J. Ronnie Greer rejected Morris' claims that the sex was consensual.

Judge Greer also noted during the sentencing that his criminal actions would affect the public's trust in law enforcement officers.
