Lendell Massengale, Jr, DDS was born and raised in Shelbyville, TN. The son of educators, he finished fifth in his graduating class at Shelbyville Central High in 1973. He also earned seven varsity letters in three sports, was a national merit scholar, vice president of student council and active in several civic organizations.
In 1973, Dr. Massengale entered The University of the South in Sewanee, TN. He was awarded the Wilkins scholarship which is a full academic scholarship which is the highest honor bestowed on an entering freshman. At college he earned two varsity football letter and one in baseball. He was a member of the order of the gownsmen ( an academic excellence organization), a student procter (or RA) for two years, and selected to Who's Who Among American Colleges in 1977. Dr. Massengale graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Teaching degree for high school science in the State of Tennessee in 1977."
In 1977 he entered Meharry Medical School of Dentistry in Nashville, TN after also being accepted by Emory University dental school in Atlanta. He graduated in 1982 while being president of his senior class. Dr. Massengale volunteered and was commissioned to serve in the United States dental corp as a captain form 1982 through 1991. After an honorable discharge in June 1991, he relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee. He worked in two dental groups from 1992 to 1996 before starting Dental Associates of West Knoxville in 1996. The original office was in Cedar Bluff at 9111 Executive Park Drive for eleven years. He moved to his new 3000 sq ft location on April 7, 2007 at 310 Simmons Road, Suite I.
Dr. Massengale has 27 years experience in all phases of general dentistry treating from 4 years old to senior citizens.
He is married to Sherry and has four children. His hobbies are swimming, travel, and many different sports.
