DANDRIDGE (WATE) - After a Jefferson County woman spoke out about her neighbor piling up tires at his home, officials found a way to take the problem to court.

A man who lives on Junior Williams Road has been collecting tires and stacking them next to his house for years, and they're collecting mosquitoes.

Tires are piled up in the front yard, the side yard and the back yard.

Ann Hall has seen enough. "They just bring them in on a daily basis and it's just gotten to the point it's too much."

"I have my grandchildren. You worry about the mosquitoes that are breeding and you know they're breeding in these tires," Hall added.

There's standing water in the tires and my photographer and I were bitten several times by mosquitoes.

The homeowner's stepson said he wasn't there. He also said he sells tires and neighbors need to mind their own business.

At the Jefferson County Courthouse, zoning compliance officer Tim Seals said, "I feel for them. I've been probably dealing with that problem over there for two years."

The problem is the zoning office didn't think there was a rule against tire hoarding. However, since the 6 News visit, they found a loophole.

"Through the county lawyers, I think we've found a way through our junk yard rules that might apply so it's now in litigation," Seals said.

So how long will it take to see results? "I don't know. You know how the courts are so when it gets in the court system, you're just at the mercy of the courts," Seals said.

"It's definitely an eyesore for the county and we'd like to try to clean it up and that's what we're in the process of doing," Seals added.
