ALCOA (WATE) - A fire broke out Saturday at the Alcoa North Plant on East Hunt Road.

The fire started in the hot mill area of the plant, Alcoa public relations spokesperson Christie Newman said. The fire was contained a few hours after it started.

The hot mill area is where slabs of aluminum are heated and thinned out into coils that will eventually become aluminum cans

Officials are investigating what caused the fire. They're not sure yet what, if any impact on production there will be.

The plant operates continuously, so there was a full shift on duty when the fire broke out, but all the workers were evacuated safely.
