Deadly wreck on Alcoa Highway


ALCOA (WATE) - A three-car accident left one Knoxville woman dead.

It happened on Alcoa Highway at Northpark Boulevard just after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Alcoa police officers said Mary Ellen Ferrie, 46, of Knoxville, was killed as the result of the accident.

Michael Christopher Bunnell, 41, of Knoxville, was traveling northbound when he started merging into the right lane.

Bunnell's van sideswiped a car being driven by Griselda C. Wilson, 58, of Maryville, which caused her car to veer off the road.

Wilson then hit Ferrie's Mitsubishi Eclipse, which was stopped at a stop sign on Northpark Boulevard at Alcoa Highway. Ferrie was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilson was injured and taken by Rural/ Metro Ambulance Service to Blount Memorial Hospital. Bunnell and his passenger suffered no injuries.

Bunnell and his passenger were wearing seat belts. Wilson and Ferrie were not wearing seat belts.

The investigation is ongoing.
