MORRISTOWN (WATE) - A mother and son died early Saturday morning in a house fire in Morristown.

The victims have been identified as Martha McDaniel, 78, and Tim McDaniel, 47.

Morristown Fire Department officials said a passerby reported the fire at 2620 Lakemoore Drive at 5:00 a.m.

"We looked out the bedroom window and the house was on fire," said D. D. Roberts, the McDaniel's neighbor for 46 years. "The fire was coming out of the roof."

When firefighters arrived on the scene they found the front, back, and right side of the home were on fire.

"I saw Tim grow up from a baby up to 46, 47 years old," said Roberts.

Neighbors say the McDaniel's had just purchased a space heater, and feel that may have caused the fire.

Sandra Elkins, another neighbor, just spoke with Martha on Friday.

"I took her some tomatoes yesterday and you would have thought it was a big ham dinner," said Elkins. "She appreciated everything you did for her. She was a real sweet lady."

Neighbors say Martha and Tim McDaniel had lived at the home since the 1960s, and that the two were very close.

"My nephew grew up with Tim and he thought the world of Martha," said Elkins. "He said he didn't think one of them could of made it without the other, so I am just thankful they went together."

Neighbors say the family loved animals, and feel many of them probably died in the fire.

The house was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
