NEW TAZEWELL (WATE) - An inmate from the Claiborne County Jail was captured early Monday, just hours after making an escape.

Dean Kinningham, 47, was spotted hiding underneath a rock around 2:00 a.m. Monday.

Kinningham walked out of the jail Sunday night just after 9:00 p.m. Within minutes of the reported escape, more than 20 officers created a perimeter of the area where they believed he was hiding.

A helicopter also circled the area using thermal imagery where they were able to key in on a central location.

Kinningham is charged with felony escape and theft under $500. Other charges may be pending.

He was initially booked into the jail after he's accused of robbing a Value RX Pharmacy in Tazewell at gunpoint on December 21, 2010.
