GATLINBURG (WATE/AP) - A North Carolina man was charged with filing a false report that claimed he was kidnapped in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Caleb McLoud Tutor, 20, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., approached park visitors on Tuesday on Laurel Creek Road and asked for help.

Park spokesman Bob Miller said Tutor told the people he approached he had escaped from kidnappers.

The Wake County, N.C., Sheriff's Office investigated and filed the charges against Tutor, who had been missing since April 14.
