Tennessee collection points set for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

NASHVILLE (WATE) - There will be collection points in East, Middle and West Tennessee on Saturday for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

The free event will be held from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. local time at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation headquarters and the two TBI regional facilities in Memphis and Knoxville.

Those locations are:

  • TBI Headquarters at 901 R.S. Gass Blvd. in Nashville
  • Memphis Consolidated Facility at 6325 Haley Road
  • Knoxville Consolidated Facility at 1791 Neals Commerce Lane

The public is invited to drop off expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Those who participate can remain anonymous.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is sponsoring the nationwide event. More than 4,700 sites will be set up nationwide Saturday to help prevent prescription drug abuse and theft. You can find other locations on the DEA website.

In September 2010, 242,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected nationwide including 105 pounds collected by TBI.
