KINGSTON (WATE) - Whitestone Inn in Kingston is the kind of getaway you want to take without the kids. It's great for reconnecting with your special someone.

The inn is a jewel in Roane County just off Interstate 75 at 1200 Paint Rock Road. It's also one of the few East Tennessee inns with a four diamond AAA rating.

If you take away the cost of traveling out of town by air or car, the money you would spend to vacation in East Tennessee would save you a nice chunk of change. In this economy that's been a selling point for those looking to do something locally.

"It's just a really nice getaway for people that don't want to go to far. You can't see any other buildings from the property. All you can see are lake and mountains. It's just a great getaway for local folks," said Whitestone Inn owner Paul Cowell.

"You just relax when you come here and the rest of the world is out there and you are in here," said Gina Lane, from Morristown.

"We are almost a resort here. We have about 600 acres and a lot of activities on the ground from kayaking, paddle boats and canoes on Watts Bar Lake, to tennis courts, croquet," Cowell said.

Cowell, who developed the property, says he wanted to make Whitestone Inn feel like an eclectic New England village, with a few extras thrown in.

"Every room has a fireplace, a king bed, a whirlpool tub. Eight of the rooms actually have an 85-gallon-a-minute waterfall spa shower," Cowell said. "Most of the tubs are two-person Jacuzzis."

So far, the look and accommodations are winning over guests. "It's just so tranquil and peaceful here," Gina Lane said. "And you feel like you have gone far away and yet you haven't, just out in the middle of nowhere."

A night's stay can be as low as $165, which includes breakfast for two. If you want to throw in a few more dollars, you can have an informal five course meal at night.

"Price wise for a AAA four diamond inn, we are very reasonable," Cowell said. "We were voted by America's Historic Inns as one of the 10 most romantic inns in America so that's one distinction we enjoy."

For those who like a little pampering, there is a full-service spa that will help you buff, polish and massage away any stress you might have brought with you.
