Highland Games in Maryville celebrate Scottish heritage


MARYVILLE (WATE) - The Highland Games at Maryville College kicked off Friday night.

It's the 30th festival for the games, but a first for Maryville College. Originally, it was held in Gatlinburg. The event celebrates Scottish heritage.

People wear kilts and take part in a wide variety of events including highland games like the hammer throw and the stone of strength.

Festivities get underway Saturday at 8:00am and go until 10:30pm. The games continue on Sunday from 9:00am until 5:00pm.

Ticket prices range from $10 to $25 depending on the events. They can be purchased online or at the event.
