KNOXVILLE (WATE) - If you're looking for some unique, locally-made jewelry or gifts in Knoxville, cast your eyes on a downtown shop.
This week's Made in Tennessee report features Fizz, a business on Market Square that is proud to sell and promote products made right in our backyard.
Salesperson Whitney Buchanan showed our crew around the shop and described the overall feel of the store. "I definitely think it is an eclectic shop. There are things here you won't find any other place in Knoxville."
Buchanan says the store is proud to highlight local work. "People actually respect that a lot here in Market Square. They come here looking for that sort of thing. By supporting local artists, they will also support us and come and shop in our store."
One of the biggest draws seems to be the vast selection of locally-made jewelry.
Buchanan says the great thing about dealing with local artists is that if someone wants to alter an item or make a special request, they can often contact the jewelry maker and get it done.
Fizz owner Kathryn Rouse has work displayed in the shop as well.
"She also has her modern medieval jewelry line here, all made of glass. She alters all the time. If something is too long or too short, she'll fix it," Buchanan said.
But it's not just the jewelry in the store that has Tennessee ties. If you look closely, you'll see clothing, beer box hats and oil lamps that are also made here.
"We have so much for everyone, the oil lamps. Kathryn Rouse, the owner, goes out into the community and while traveling finds these things and pulls them in," Buchanan said.
Rouse designs hair accessories and tiaras as well that can be altered to your liking. They're quite popular for proms and weddings.
